ARDC not only helps elect strong Democratic leaders, we also have many events in the community! One of the projects we are very proud of is our bi-annual Abington foodbank drive!
If you would like to help, come to one of our meetings noted above!
Thank you for helping the Abington Food Cupboard
Glenside News
To the editor:
We would like to thank all of our generous neighbors throughout Abington Township, Cheltenham Township and the surrounding communities for making the MLK Day of Service Food Drive (sponsored by the Abington–Rockledge Democratic Committee and Be the Change Baederwood) a huge success!
Thanks to all of you, we collected almost 200 bags of food to help restock the Abington Food Cupboard. Highlights of the Food Drive include the following:
We received a sizeable drop-off from a second-grader at Copper Beach Elementary, who collected food from her classmates. (Her mom helped with the actual drop-off — those bags were heavy!)
One neighbor, Megan O’Connor, who hosted a birthday party for her 2-year-old daughter, asked guests to bring nonperishables for the food drive in lieu of presents.
We received $10 gift cards and a generous $50 donation.
We collected more personal care items — such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, deodorant and toilet paper — than in any previous food drive. (These items are essential to the food cupboard’s clients, but they are not covered by food stamps.)
The Abington Food Cupboard, part of the Interfaith Housing Alliance, serves our neediest neighbors within a 10-mile radius of its location (Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2086 Parkview Ave., Abington, PA 19001). Its dedicated volunteers work hard to fulfill food requests that have increased dramatically in recent years, especially requests from families. Please remember that you don’t have to wait for a food drive to give to the food cupboard: They accept donations of nonperishable foods and personal care items during their normal hours of operation (Monday – Friday, 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.). They also accept grocery store gift cards (especially $10 cards from Giant) and cash/check donations. (Checks should be made payable to Interfaith Housing Alliance and have “Food Cupboard” in the memo line.)
The Abington–Rockledge Democratic Committee and Be the Change Baederwood are committed to serving our community, and we will be organizing community service projects — including more food drives — throughout the year. For details on our work and our committees, to sign up for our timely e-blasts, and to find out how you can get involved, please visit our respective online headquarters at www.AbingtonDemocrats.com and www.BeTheChangeBaederwood.org.
Once again, thank you for helping the Abington Food Cupboard help our neighbors!

Organizers from the ARDC teamed up with local Democratic candidates to support the Abington Food Cupboard's summer food drive.
Despite the somewhat dreary weather, ARDC volunteers and township commissioner candidates turned out in full force, gathering up 140 bags of non-perishable food items donated by area residents to help bolster the Food Cupboard's stock during a traditionally slow period for donations.
